I have wanted to be a life coach for many years. It’s actually been half of my life. I guess I’ve always been concerned with others and their success and well being. The first part of my life was consumed with music. I was mostly consumed with Olivia Newton-John’s music. Actually, I still am. However, once I had my son in 1991, I discovered that there was a world outside of me. I’d never really thought much about helping others. When I became a Christian in 1991, after having my son, my life took on a whole new tone.
Gone were the days of me, me, me. Now, I realized that there were needs beyond mine. I saw that my comfort wasn’t the only comfort that mattered. I began to seek to be a better person and to find my significance in this world. Well, I began to think that maybe what I wanted wasn’t always the most important thing. I’d never before even considered that I might not be the most important person in the world. Well, I could no longer operate in that frame of mind. I, now, had an infant who depended on me for everything. Regardless of my previous beliefs, his demanding fits of screaming quickly trained me in the truth that HE was, now, center place!!
So, how does a person get to that place in his or her life? How do we arrive at the conclusion that it’s, now, time to grow up and make someone or something else the center of importance? Well, we can come to this epitome either by choice or by way of necessity. Due to an extended background in these things, I HIGHLY advise the former avenue. Once we reach the point in our lives where we MUST become independent adults, then we’ve got to be a pro at crash courses because the testing centers of life have no grading curve and absolutely no syllabus! It’s, often, a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants- kind of classroom!! In light of this, I would HIGHLY advise that every person get out his or her pen and start taking detailed notes from Professor Life Experience!
Now, we face another question on this path. How does one get started on his or her way to maturity? Well, while there are probably as many possible answers to this question as there are people on the planet, there are also some very tried and true constants. I know what you’re thinking. It doesn’t have to be hard and it doesn’t have to be boring. Life is like a truly exciting choose your own ending book!! Once we start to come up with the formula for success, we can start walking the road with confidence and forgiveness. Now, I say forgiveness because you’re going to need A LOT of it!! Life is just FULL of opportunities to learn to forgive. We’ll go more into detail about that subject later too. For now, what you need to know is that the game isn’t over until you’re dead. Sorry for the bluntness, but that’s just how it is. If you still have life in you, then you still have a chance to make SOMETHING out of that life. You just need to know where to start. Well, if you’ve made the decision to change your life for the better, then you already HAVE started. That is, after all, the very first step. You must admit that a change is needed. Now that we have that very difficult step out of the way, we can get to the real work!
